The Feels

I haven't blogged in a bit, but it was necessary after watching the The Fault in Our Stars trailer.

Okay, now that you have watched it, are you not excited?  I think I just fell in love with a fictional character and the actor portraying him again. I'm anticipating this one because the book went through the full spectrum of emotions.  Happiness, sadness, love, laughter.  I think this is a book and movie that everyone can enjoy.  John Green is amazing.

Thoughts on the book/trailer?

Yogurt and Books

One missed turn can be a huge problem.

My friend, Danielle and I went to a Rainbow  Rowell, David Levithan, and Lucy Hale book signing in Haverford.

Right now, Danielle is blowing on her phone playing "Dumb Ways to Die" in a frozen yogurt store across the street with our unsigned books sitting next to us.

It's 27 degrees.

Everything was good today.  It actually seemed perfect until my navigator Dani and I got a bit discombobulated. First, there was a trip to Barnes and Noble.  Next, a "study" session at the library across the street. It was open on a Sunday and closed when we needed to leave. Dinner at Panera was fine. Driving was fine until the exit.  One second, we were one point something miles aware from the next. After a heated conversation about a fellow classmate's questionable social skills, we were ten point something miles from the next turn.

We passed the exit. Our ETA was 7:30 something. The signing started at 7:00. So, we decided to take the next exit and turn around.

Less than five minutes late, Danielle and I were in the back of the tiny bookstore due to the crowd with books that we still had to purchase.  The event had already started. This is the first author event I've ever been to that started on time.

The authors read two sections from their books and the  did a Q and A. David Levithan and Rainbow Rowell were very funny, as expected. Lucy Christopher was sweet and super cute with her British- Australian accent!

Every person received a number when he or she bought books. When the signing portion began, numbers 1-20 were allowed to stay in the store and everyone else had to wait outside since the store is so tiny. Let me reiterate that there is snow on the ground. It's cold!

Danielle and go are numbers 66 and 67, so here we are eating froyo across the street in a warm place. We're not getting home anytime soon, especially if we repeat getting lost!

Excerpt

I decide not to waste much time on my wardrobe. I grab my new jeans, a long-sleeved white tee, boots, and veto drying my hair by putting on my favorite camo ball cap. Once I’m ready, the girls and I grab a bite to eat and all go our separate ways. I crank up the radio and the heat in the Honda. It feels like minutes instead of an hour when I realize I’ve been lost in thought the majority of the way. Can we say dangerous? Note to self: focus while driving.
I pop in our drunk mix cd that Caroline always plays in her room while we drink PJ. It’s a lot more comical to listen to while sober. Seriously, the country version of “Gin and Juice” and “The Monster” by Eminem? I can’t help but laugh. It doesn’t get any better when “Genie in a Bottle” by Christina Aguilera begins playing. What was she thinking? Oh, wait. She wasn’t thinking because she was drunk.
I approach Grassy Pond, and nothing has changed since Thanksgiving. It’s still stoplight after stoplight. I can’t wait to hit that gravel road. I see the farm approaching and feel the butterflies within my stomach. For once, I’m excited and relieved to be home.
Turning off the ignition, I see Blue running toward me. As soon as I’m out of the car, he attacks me. “Yeah, boy, I’ve missed you, too.” I rub behind his ears and then make my way to the house.
There’s no need to hurry, because as I glance up, Tessa and Mama are in full out sprints. I giggle inside. Tessa wraps me in a tight embrace.
“Miss me much?” I smirk.
“Char, I swear. Mama and Daddy have been workin’ me to death on this farm. If you didn’t get home soon, I might actually have had to take care of those stupid goats, not to mention sloppin’ the hogs. Yuck!”
I should have known Tessa was more excited because that meant less work for her, but that’s my sis, always missin’ when a little hard work needs to be done.
“Hey, hun, I’m glad you’re home. Your dad’s gone into town to get a few posts for the fence. I don’t know what has gotten into that bull out there. It’s like he just doesn’t know which side he belongs,” Mama says.
I pop the trunk and grab my bags. Mama grabs my laundry basket, and we make our way into the house.
As I walk through the screen door, the sound of an F250 that I’d know anywhere rings in my ears. I smile and throw my bag at the bottom of the stairs. I do a one-eighty, press the screen door open, jump off the stairs, and run as fast as my legs will go to that perfect sound. Cash opens the door and steps out in one swift motion. He has on a pair of jeans, a white plaid pearl snap, camo hat, and boots. Damn. I jump straight into his arms and hold him as close as possible.
“Miss me much?” He winks.
I begin to laugh uncontrollably. “You know, I just used that line on Tessa.” I pull him closer. He looks into my eyes, smiles with that damn dimple, and I feel complete. Cash Money makes me whole.
He finally puts me down when he hears the screen door open. I see Tessa standing there with her hands on her hips. “Um, did y’all plan that?”
“Plan what, Tess?” I question as I straighten my long-sleeved white shirt. Then, it dawns on me. Jeans, white shirt, camo hat, and boots. Cash and I look like we planned our freakin’ wardrobe.
“What can I say? Great minds think alike,” Cash says as he slaps my ass while we walk toward the house. We go inside and Mama has lunch waiting.

Review: The Proposition by Katie Ashley

The Proposition (The Proposition, #1)The Proposition by Katie Ashley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Current Rating on Goodreads: 4.13

With her thirtieth birthday looming, Emma Harrison finds her biological clock clanging and the elusive knight in shining armor yet to appear. She’s running out of options, especially after her gay best friend backs out from being her sperm donor. Of course, there’s always a sperm bank, but Emma fears a donor mix-up might impregnate her with the spawn of Satan.

Resident company womanizer, Aidan Fitzgerald, is used to always getting what he wants, especially in the bedroom. When Emma spurns his advances at the company Christmas party, he's determined to have her no matter what it takes. After Aidan learns of Emma's predicament, he is quick to offer a proposition that will benefit them both. He will father Emma's child, but she must conceive it with him naturally. Not one for hook-ups or casual sex, Emma is reluctant to take him up on his offer, but his charm, coupled with her intense desire for motherhood, wins out.

Soon their baby-making sessions become more than just physical. Aidan can't seem to walk away from her while Emma begins to wonder if Aidan could be the one. But can Aidan leave his past behind to become the man Emma needs him to be?

Characters: Maybe Emma is nuts for agreeing to a stranger, though a very attractive one, but I can't criticize her for having a desire to have a child.  She would be a fantastic mom because she sweet and patient.  Despite his reputation, Aidan is caring and attentive to Emma.  He knows how to be a gentleman but tell a witty, kinda vulgar joke.  I loved him until the end.  However, I really enjoyed Aidan's father.  He lost his wife earlier and never found anyone else to love as much as her.  He also treats Emma like his own daughter and doesn't judge her for being pregnant without being married first.

Plot: This is definitely a book plot in my eyes, meaning that I don't think a gorgeous coworker with a playboy reputation that you have briefly met once would offer you his sperm in real life. But it was certainly a fun story.  I know a lot are aggravated by the ending, but I had the luxury of having the sequel already out.  If I had to wait for the sequel, I probably will have been very angry. I'm not happy with the cliffhanger ending, but  the author has to do something to keep us interested.

Review: Come to Me Quietly by A.L. Jackson

Come to Me Quietly (Closer to You, #1)Come to Me Quietly by A.L. Jackson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Current Goodreads Rating: 4.33

Aleena Moore is content with her life. She has goals and dreams and an easy smile. She also has a secret she holds locked inside.

Jared Holt believes he doesn’t deserve to love or be loved. He destroys everything he touches. Haunted by the mistake that shattered his life, he’s fled from the memory of that pain.

Jared doesn’t know why he’s compelled to return, but finds himself drawn back to the place where it all began. The exact place where it ended. When he runs into his childhood best friend, Aleena’s older brother Christopher, he agrees to share Christopher and Aleena’s apartment while he looks for a place of his own.

Aleena is no longer the little girl Jared remembers from his past and evokes feelings in him he never wanted to feel again. Terrified of destroying her, he fights to keep her away. But her touch is something he can’t resist—the touch that sealed his fate.

Their pasts are intertwined and their futures uncertain. The only truths they know are the secrets they whisper in the night.

Looking at the Goodreads high rating, it seems that I'm the odd one.

Characters: Aleena and Jared are extremely bland as adults. Jared is not witty and is aloof.  The only time he opens up is when he sneaks into Aleena's room, but Jackson doesn't explore their conversation enough to make me fall for either of them.  Frankly, I thought the two were giant cowards, never telling Christopher about their relationship.  Telling your old best friend that you are into his sister is difficult, but it seemed to me that Jared didn't feel guilty about the secret.  However, I did really enjoy the flashbacks because Jared was super sweet to Aleena who was always trying to tag along with him and her brother.  Jared always let her come though Christopher didn't want her around to ruin their plans.

Plot: There was a little plot twist toward the end, but I am so sick of either rapes or car crashes in NA books.  NA authors, no!

Would I recommend this to a friend? No, I wasn't a fan of the characters or the plot.  I probably won't read the sequel.

Book Signings Are Dangerous

I had a weird dream involving books and a signing, so I thought I'd share it here. I like to write down some of the weird ones since dreams could have meaning beyond the storyline of the dream.
I went to a Ransom Riggs, Tahereh Mafi, and some other person signing alone. It was in Worcester, MA where Im thinking about going to college. I brought a couple of books from home and bought some too. My friend, Danielle, said she couldn't make it, but she surprised me by showing up. I was super excited, and we explored the store, sat in on what  the less prominent authors were saying. Then, we realized we didn't have our purses.  As we turned the corner to see where we last put them, we saw a group of young, African American boys leave with them and escape through a black elevator. We ran over to it, only to discover it didn't operate automatically. Like entering the darkroom at my school, the sides of the cylindrical contraption had to be moved in order for the whole thing to move down.  It was like a spiral motion had to be put in place manually in order for the "elevator" to move. We were terrible at turning the sides because they were heavy! We got to a floor of a gym, and I asked a beautiful guy working there if he saw a group of Arican American men with purses that they were trying to sell.
The guy was either stupid or playing me, but it was plain annoying. He assumed I was being racist for saying that African Americans stole them, but I explained that that's what happened. He wouldn't believe it and kept calling the situation hypothetical.  He was useless, and I was getting more peeved as the seconds went by.

In the elevator we went again, and we stopped at the floor of a night club. We looked to see if anyone had our purses.  We felt deflated when we found nothing.  We never called our parents because we didn't want them to worry.  What silly kids we are. Danielle had a plan to pretend we knew someone there, have he or she say something about the purses
and then look to see who looks guilty.  And that's where I woke up.

The things I most remember about this dream was feeling more upset about losing my books and missing the signing than loosing my wallet.  Always be careful about abandoning your purse for a second.  Book signings can be danegorus.

Review: Before Jamaica Lane by Samantha Young

Before Jamaica Lane (On Dublin Street, #3)Before Jamaica Lane by Samantha Young
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One simple lesson in seduction between two friends can turn into so much more…

Despite her outgoing demeanor, Olivia is painfully insecure around the opposite sex—usually, she can’t get up the nerve to approach guys she’s interested in. But moving to Edinburgh has given her a new start, and, after she develops a crush on a sexy postgrad, she decides it’s time to push past her fears and go after what she wants.

Nate Sawyer is a gorgeous player who never commits, but to his close friends, he’s as loyal as they come. So when Olivia turns to him with her relationship woes, he offers to instruct her in the art of flirting and to help her become more sexually confident.

The friendly education in seduction soon grows into an intense and hot romance. But then Nate’s past and commitment issues rear their ugly heads, and Olivia is left broken-hearted. When Nate realizes he’s made the biggest mistake of his life, he will have to work harder than he ever has before to entice his best friend into falling back in love with him—or he may lose her forever…

Me right now
Characters: AHHHHHH! I want these characters to be real and be my BFFs.  Joss, Braden, Adam,
Ellie, Jo, Cam, Hannah, and Cole play major roles in this story! They are super hilarious and caring, always there for each other.  I'm really looking forward to Hannah's story which is the next in the series because Hannah says what's on her mind, no matter how blunt.  And Marco is African American Italian. Talk about beautiful. Finally, I'm rooting for Cole to get a story of his own.  How great would it be to get a stour written by Samantha Young through the male perspective?

Now, I'm done fawning over the secondary characters.

Nate and Olivia, my heart just grew.  Both of these two are nerdy.  Nate writes a blog and Olivia is a librarian! Their neediness was incorporated in their first meeting, and it is fantastically cute.  Out of all of On Dublin Street's female characters, Olivia is the most relatable for me.  Joss is sassier than me, Ellie is cheerier than me, and Jo is way tougher than me.  I adore them, but Olivia is my favorite because she has my personality.  As for Nate, his playboy ways may seem annoying in the beginning, but he's always cared about Olivia and makes her feel beautiful inside and out.  He has legitimate reasons for his notcommitence, but it was frustrating.  I wanted these two to get serious faster because they are too
perfect for each other.  He's also described as being movie star beautiful, which I quite enjoy.

Plot: Just wanted to mention that Castle Hill, the Braden and Joss novella overlaps with this book.

The plot has been done before, but I still loved this book! Samantha Young is bloody brilliant.  While I laughed out loud during most of the book, I admit to tearing up.  This is the first book I've ever read where that's happened.  It was weird.

I devoured this book, and I have been thinking about the characters since I finished it.  They'll always have a happy ending in my head.

Check out my reviews of all of the books in the series.

Review- Castle Hill: A Joss and Braden Novella by Samantha Young

Castle Hill: A Joss and Braden Novella (On Dublin Street, #2.5)Castle Hill: A Joss and Braden Novella by Samantha Young
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Braden Carmichael never imagined he'd fall as hard and as fast as he did for Jocelyn Butler. He also could not have anticipated how difficult it would be to convince her to give in to love. But now that he has her, he's never letting go. He's got it all planned - the passionate proposal, the dream wedding, the sexy Hawaiian honeymoon - even the perfect family they'll start.

After trying to flee from her painful past, Joss is finally allowing herself to embrace the future. But when things start moving faster than she anticipated, she finds herself panicking over something Braden can't understand. After everything they've been through, Joss is sure that their love can survive even her worst fears. But, this time, she may push Braden too far - and risk losing everything all over again...

You better read On Dublin Street first!!!!

Characters: Braden and Joss are back.  They're still hilarious, but their sensitive sides come out again in this which was pretty depressing.   The characters I love go through some rough patches, and I just love them so much and I didn't want them to struggle.  They're like my friends.  Anyone else feel this way?

Ellie, Adam, Jo, Cam, and Olivia appear for what seems like 2 seconds:/

Plot: I was thinking about writing an entire post ranting about how mad I am that authors write sequels where the characters have trouble when they just got their happy ending.  Yes, life isn't like that, but I read to escape. There should be happy endings all of the time!

Yeah, so the plot was about trouble in paradise.  It was torture, but I had to read it.  Samantha Young writes with such éclat!!

Would I recommend it to a friend?
Yeah, if you read On Dublin Street, you've probably fell in love with these people and continued with the series.  Castle Hill overlaps with Before Jamaica Lane which I recently read. A review for that will be up soon.

I love you, Courtney S. Stevens and Twitter!

I won an ARC of Faking Normal by Courtney S. Stevens on Twitter, one of those contests you enter by retweeting I think.  This is the third time I have won something bookish this way, so it's definitely worth trying.  I won this before the holiday break, so that explains the ornament.

I'm sorry, but I can't rotate this photo.

I was expecting to only receive the ARC, but Courtney sent me a Green Lantern poster with a nice message on it, an ornament as already mentioned, two bracelets, and a promotional card for Faking Normal.  The ARC was signed!!! This was too nice, considering I wasn't supposed to get anything extra, and I didn't pay shipping.  I'll be seeing Courtney on the Story Crush tour in March :)

Review: Be With Me by J. Lynn (Jennifer Armentrout)

Be with Me by J. Lynn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

Characters: I'm such a sucker for boys named Jase.  He is a caring guy that you'll definitely fall for, but his baggage makes him so frustrating at times!! I always feel like a jerk when characters' drama causes them to act standoffish, but it is annoying aggravating as a reader.  His loyalty to Cam is sweet, but its effect on him not commuting to Tess seems minimal compared to his drama's effect.  Tess has possibly the worst luck ever, but she's sweet and doesn't deserve it. At least she has her brother, Avery, and Jase to support her because she gets dealth the poopiest of cards: dancing career over, a little something else that would be a HUGE plot ruiner.  Cam and Avery from Wait for You return, but their roles aren't huge. Still great to see that they are going strong!

Plot: I was going through Wait for You, and there is a bit of foreshadowing in the last chapter; Jase asks Cam if he just saw Tess on campus.  Jennifer Armentrout planned it all along, and I just stumbled upon that line.

I'm beginning to think that Jennifer is somewhat twisted because that spoiler I was talking about is scary and creepy!  Be safe, world!  It's a notch above the trite car crash or rape found in NA, but that's just me.

The plot is typical for a rom dram, but I couldn't peel my eyes from the pages.  It's like a train wreak!!! You've got your tension, getting together, falling out, and making up.  These types of books are my guilty pleasure because it's not quality literature, and I even find myself laughing when scenes are supposed to be serious( when Cam finds out about Tess and his best friend being together!), but I love a happy ending.

THIS WOULD BE A GOOD VALENTINE'S READ :)

Review: Life in Outer Space by Melissa Kiel

Life in Outer SpaceLife in Outer Space by Melissa Keil
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sam Kinnison is a geek, and he’s totally fine with that. He has his horror movies, his nerdy friends, World of Warcraft – and until Princess Leia turns up in his bedroom, he doesn’t have to worry about girls.

Then Sam meets Camilla. She’s beautiful, friendly and completely irrelevant to his life. Sam is determined to ignore her, except that Camilla has a life of her own – and she’s decided that he’s going to be part of it.

Sam believes that everything he needs to know he can learn from the movies... but now it looks like he’s been watching the wrong ones.

Characters: I have no other way of describing Sam and Camilla than to say that they are the epitome of CUTE!!!!!!!!!! Sam's kind of quiet and is obsessed with movies.  He's really awkward and smart.  He's attractive, but he seems like a guy nobody would expect to be good looking because of his social status.  Camilla is the absolute sweetest! As the new girl, she's got everybody's attention, especially the popular jerks'.  She's nice to these guys, but she truly connects with Sam and his awesome friends!! Of Sam's buddies, Mike is my favorite.  He seems aloof and acts strangely, but he's loyal and thoughtful.

Plot: This is such a light, feel good read.  One of the book's best features is its witty, nerdy references.  They are mostly older horror movie references which I usually don't get, but I appreciate the ones referring to the bad teen movies from the 80s.  I feel like a pseudonerd because I didn't get some allusions, but it remains a fun read about young love among underdogs.

Would I recommend this to a friend? YES! A friend recommended it to me, and not many people have rated it on goodreads.  I was a little hesitant to start the, but I'm glad I trusted my friend because this one's a good one to reread when you are sad.

Challenges UPdated

I've updated my challenges on my blog in addition to the challenge on Goodreads.

I went with 51 books on Goodreads.  That one book is going to be the difference. Haha.

I don't expect me to complete any of the challenges except the 51 one because I don't like being limited to certain books, but I'll try my best this year!!!!

And I CHALLENGE YOU!

New Year, New Resolutions?

I am one of those people who are terrible at making resolutions because they are never realistic.  For example, I wanted to exercise every day of the year.  I broke that within like 3 days.  I wanted to blog every single day of the year.  I did get past 365 posts this year, but this was only because I signed up for a thousand promos or blog tours, stuff that I just had to copy and paste into a new post.  My blog became a giant advertisement, so I decided to stop signing up for these and gets back to straight reviews, signings, and bookish things I find interesting.

So, this year I don't think I'm doing any resolutions.  I have little goals like to branch out in the genres that I read or just to read more, but nothing crazy like to read 100 books.  Yes, I love reading, but I got a life too! I'll be starting college this year.  Let even more work begin because I sure am not drowning in it now. Haha, that was a joke.

Bottom line- I'm going to edit my challenge page.  The challenge will still be the read everything on my bookshelves combined with the A to Z challenge because I still have sooooooooooooooooooo many books that I haven't read.  They just look so pretty on the shelf! I have a book buying addiction.

Do you make resolutions? Do you keep them?  How about book challenges?
